All You Ever Wanted to Know About Insurance

Electronic Proof of Insurance

What is a proof of insurance?  A proof of insurance is a card that is presented to you by your insurance carrier that shows that you have purchased insurance for your vehicle.  It is also referred to as an insurance ID card or a binder.  Paper proofs of insurance are quickly becoming  a thing of the past. There are only 2 states that do not currently accept electronic proofs of insurance- Connecticut and New Mexico. In January 2016, Governor Snyder signed legislation that allows Michigan drivers to use their smartphones and/or tablets to show proof of auto insurance to law enforcement officers, Secretary of State, etc.
