All You Ever Wanted to Know About Insurance

40 Under 40 Profile: Alex Ieuter

It made our day when we heard that not one but two of the young insurance professionals at Ieuter Insurance Group earned a spot on the Midland Daily News' 40 Under 40 list. Here's reporter Dave Clark's interview with our own Alex Ieuter.

Name: Alex Ieuter

Age: 26

Residence: Midland

Employer: Ieuter Insurance Group

Hobbies: I enjoy golfing, traveling to national parks and spending time with family.

Church, volunteer organizations: I am a member at First United Methodist Church in Midland where I taught Vacation Bible School for multiple years. I am on the NextGen Leaders of Michigan Committee helping to grow the insurance industry with the next generation. I am also on the ABC Great Lakes Bay Region Membership Committee working with many contractors in the region.

Describe a day on the job for you: Every day is different at Ieuter Insurance Group, which is one of my favorite parts about my job. My day could start with me driving to Freeland for a meeting with a prospect to see if we would be a good fit to work with each other on the insurance for their business.

After that, I could have lunch with an insured to catch up and see how everything was going.

Later on, I may be at my computer in the office working on answering emails from underwriters about any questions they had with businesses we submitted to them.

To finish the day, I go through my emails and any missed calls to make sure I answered all emails and returned all calls same day.

What is the best thing about working in your industry? The best thing about working in the insurance industry is helping people. We are there for our insureds when their child gets into a car accident or their house has a fire or their business has a pipe burst and is now flooded.

We get the opportunity to help people put their life back together.

Who are some role models or mentors who have helped you? There have been many role models to help me throughout my time in insurance. I am blessed to be able to work in an office with my grandfather, Cal Ieuter, father, Kurt Ieuter, and uncle, Karl Ieuter. All three have been extremely helpful in learning all the ins and outs of the insurance industry.

Who are some other notable young professionals in your professional network? I am extremely grateful to have a network of many great young professionals. Aaron Wiggins is someone who I regularly bounce ideas off relating to the insurance industry. Another person who I am lucky to commonly network with is Josh Roden, as we both enjoy going to events in the Great Lakes Bay Region. Drew Gandy is someone who I learn from, especially relating to financial services, and network with often as well.

What’s your favorite part about working in the Midland area? My favorite part of working in the Midland area is being close to so many family and friends. Midland is a great place to raise a family.

From attending a Loon’s game, golfing in the city or fishing on the Tittabawassee River, there is always something to do with friends.
